"A new commandment I give you: love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you should also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you love for one another." Jn. 13: 34-35

According to the Gospel, the most characteristic of Christ's disciples should be love for oneanother. Jesus did not impart many commandments. The commandment that Jesus gave, which is described as a New Commandment, is 'Loving one another as Jesus loved us'. The early church was not a church made up of angels. They were all human beings. Therefore, a few were greedy for money, a few were adulterous, a few were jealous, and a few were racist. But they also endured much religious persecution. However, as a newly formed community, they loved one another and took upon themselves sufferings for others. Tertullian writes that the pagans commented among themselves that, "Look, how they love one another!" Paul puts it in one line, “Owe nothing to anyone except the debt of love you owe one another” (Rom. 13: 8).

Why am I quoting now these Bible verses? Just to remind ourselves of the most essential vision and manner of life of Christ’s disciples. Has the church ever had any shortage of theology, liturgy, or other ‘ologies’, international symposiums, and seminars? What will and when can seminaries and formation houses do to ensure that the aforementioned New Commandment thing is present in the lives of at least those who are ment to lead the Church? How long can the sounding gongs and clanging cymbals go on in this way?
