Dumping religion

Why is the new generation moving away from religion? Have you ever wondered what the main reasons are? I felt like mentioning here some of the conclusions that I have arrived at. In a nutshell, the new generation dislikes religions and the older generation that includes me. They may have their own terms for both. In almost every nook and corner of the world where postmodern thought has penetrated, the reality is the almost the same.

What is the main flaw of religions and the older generation? Simply put, the attitude and thinking that they are better than others, and our conversations that belittle others. In one word, self-righteousness. This is the area where all religions fail. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Jews all are bad - Christians think; and that they are the best and behave accordingly. Christians, Muslims, Jews are all bad - Hindus think; and that they are the best. Muslims will think that all other religions are bad and that they are the best. (Not about principles, but about religious believers). It seems that all religions have a blind spot in this area.

In fact, if we observe the teachings and responses of Jesus in the Gospels, the followers of Christ should not have fallen into this trap. Because in Jesus' time, he had most tug with the sin of self-righteousness/hypocrisy. This was the blindness that was in the Pharisees, the Scribes, and the Sadducees. They thought that they were the ones who observed the law and everyone else was sinners. Once you got the idea that you are righteous, spiritual pride, a sense of superiority, disrespect, and a tendency to judge others would immediately be yours. That is hypocrisy. Only we need to consider how many times did Jesus speak about the above sins; and on the other side, how many times did he speak about murder, theft, adultery, and bearing false witness! According to Jesus, what God hates most is not murder, theft, adultery, or false witness - it is spiritual pride, self-righteousness, judgmental attitude, and insensitivity to the needs of others.

In practice, all religions today look the same. If none of the religions are useful in removing spiritual blindness of their followers, why should one follow any of them?!

If so, the contemporary youth are reaching the point where they simply abandon religions.

Who is responsible for this?
